Box Elder
This was a solo day for me. I started around 7 AM and it was in the 40s, but it didn't take long to warm up. The trail was nice up to the saddle, and then it got steep for the last mile. I think my favorite thing about this was having Timp and the surrounding peaks on one side and then all the peaks along the Little Cottonwood ridge on the other. Great views and nice day!

Talk about a crazy trail. The trail is still there for the most part, it kinda disappears as you approach the ridgeline. But it's almost entirely overgrown in some areas. Bring a machete or some clippers if you're going this way
Long, hot slog up to Box Elder. The start of the ridge after the trail was especially strenuous, but my friend and I made good time. Beautiful views from the top and a thunderstorm rolled in over the American Fork Twins when we reached the summit. Plenty of snow still visible on Timpanogos. Great peak for getting away from crowds!

Tedious but Fun
Climbed up Trail 43 up Deer Creek. Made good time up until the snow on the ridge. I had no winter gear so it took 3 hours from the ridge to the top of Box Elder. I kept sliding back down the snow even though it was only 1-3 feet deep. That part was horrible. Very cold on the summit. The views were amazing, though! Going back down was really fun. Slid down from the top to the pass in 20-30 minutes. Very fun trip on the way down, if not a bit boring coming down the trail. Also did Silver Lake Peak on a previous hike.

Box Elder Peak
10/25/2015 Nice loop hike with Ben Stokes and Donovan Lynch. Also hit the SE peak and South peak (2 ranked 10,000 footer in the Wasatch).
7/18/2014 Very nice hike with my dad from the Deer Creek trail. Did Silver Lake Peak as well on the way out.

Great hike
I went up Phelps Canyon to the summit then north across the ridge to the sub-peaks near White Baldy (above Silver Lake), returning to the trailhead via the Dry Creek trail. Some strong winds along the ridge but otherwise, a perfect day. Beautiful views all the way around.

North Ridge
What a slog! Gaining the North Ridge in winter conditions is exhausting. I spent just about the entire hike post-holing anywhere from 6 inches to 4 feet. This was with snowshoes on and a 5 A.M. start! Can't wait to try out the cirque once spring rolls around.

Great Peak!
We enjoyed this one! We underestimated the 1 foot of snow and steep terrain, should have brought the crampons and gators. The wind, clouds, and snow were brutal on top, but all 3 made for quite the adventure! We even followed elk tracks to navigate through a portion of the steep pine section.

Finally!
Box Elder has been on my list for about 15 years. I can't believe it took me so long to bag this baby. This one will definitely be added to the rotation. Some of the best views in the Wasatch. With Jun32 and Jennilyn. We just beat the storm. Cold and windy on top. 1:50 to the summit and just over 3 round trip.

First Hike After Moving to SLC
A 6.5-hr solo. Underestimated the distance and elevation gain. Basically coming off the couch, the last 0.5 miles on the way down were painful. Losing the trail in the snow within the forest was costly as well. The clouds we a bit menacing but were over Timpanogos.
~11 miles round-trip
~4500 feet of elevation gain

N-S loop via Dry Creek
Trip report. Climbed up from Alpine via the S Ridge, enjoyed a perfect hour on the summit eating lunch, then descended via the north ridge. Lost the trail where the ridge splits above the forested slope and ended up bushwhacking (not bad) our way down to the grassy bench below where we found a sweet shortcut back to Dry Creek
