Rattlesnake Trail
Looked at the weather report for the next week and decided better get out for one more day in the sun! Trail was in good shape although I agree with previous post about wearing shorts! Lots of growth over the trail especially in the steeper sections before the long traverse over to the summit. Headed over to Wellsville Cone and then back down Rattlesnake Trail. Saw one other individual. Great views and fall colors.

Solo climb
Solo climb via Coldwater Canyon. Summited Wellsville Cone first. Beautiful full colors.
Went up the Rattlesnake Trail and summited Box Elder, then continued on to the Wellsville Cone and back again. The rattlesnake trail is a bit rough in some spots and completely overgrown in others. Break out the bushwhacking skills...

my 1st big summit
Baaa. Goat from South Carolina here, representing the Webb family, the Southern people, the CSA, and Univ. of SC Law School. I got to the top, views of such great distance. It ain't normal. Baaa.
There's only shade in the lower part of the canyon. Some sections have loose rocks so be careful going down. No rattlesnakes today! Wonderful views on top, and for most of the way up. I definitely earned the Fat Boy ice cream sandwich I ate when I was done.
Very nice day , hiked in from Deep canyon in Mendon and then across the top and down Rattlesnake trail to Wellsville Canyon. Great day!! approx 11.6 miles.
Climbed from Rattlesnake. Done it a couple of times and it always takes way longer than I expect. Ended up descending with my headlamp both times.

Coldwater Route
6/22/15 - Went up the Rattlesnake trail and down Deep Canyon. Jeremy J. came along. I was glad to do the full traverse.
We started just west of Mendon and went past Coldwater lake and then up to Stewart Pass. From there we hiked along the ridge to the Wellsville Cone and Box Elder Peak.

Wet Hike
Wow, That's a steep mountain! Great trail though. Dean and I started out at 7:30 am and reached the summit just a little after 11am We did has some December type weather about .7 from the summit. but as long as the thunder stayed away we kept going. No views from on top, too many clouds, we didn't stay long on top since the wind was blowing so hard and it was way cold, Someone needs to replace the register if they get a chance, I wish I would have been carrying a spare. It was toast. Great Hike! Great Company! Thanks Dean

Rattlesnake Trail
Fellow SP member MikerHiker and myself went up in interesting conditions. We had to wait out a thunderstorm for awhile and we were hailed and rained on. Another delay was caused by the need to stop and wring out my socks. No views on the summit thanks to fog and clouds and also noted that the summit register was in tatters. Useless. We did have some nice views open up as we descended. Met three hikers who were on their way up when we were getting close to our car. Mike is a great companion and we enjoyed the day despite the conditions.

Rattlesnake Trail
Great peak to end May. Saw some boy scouts that were taking the day to traverse the ridge from Box Elder to Wellsville Cone and down the route to the north. I could see my grandparents house that live in Tremonton from the summit - very cool.

Ski descent
What a great ascent up Pine Canyon. We descended via one of the steep couloirs off the summit to the east. Great weather compared to the last couple times in the Wellsvilles.
First climbed in 1984 while attending USU, probably did it 3-4 times in the eighties, Lead a Wasatch mountain Club hike doing the ridge Run from Rattlesnake to Deep Canyon the late 90's

Rattlesnake
This is a pretty steep trail, there was still lots of snow on top giving a nice glissade when I traversed over to the cone and back. Because it's such a narrow range the summit views are fabulous.

Coldwater Canyon to the Cone
I left Logan at 5 am in my Father-in-Laws Chrysler and was able to SLOWLY and tediously make it up the very rutty dirt road to the trailhead by 6 am. I made my way up to Coldwater Lake (more a pond really) and then up the ridge and up the ridge. Stewart Pass is just a pile of rocks with no sign. I was sad to see that someone hadn't really put up some good signs indicating place and distance. I headed north up to what I guess was the Cone, there was a rubber tube with summit register but no indication where I was exactly. :) 3 hours to the top and 2 hours down.

Deep Canyon - mid-1990's - I had an allergic reaction with stinging nettle in this canyon. It's the only thing that seems to bother me. This route is quite long but still fun.
Deep Canyon - July 31, 2005 - Hiked with my friend who lives in Logan. She wanted to go to the Wellsville Mountains because she sees them everyday but had never been there.
Rattlesnake Trail - October 11, 2006 - Climbed on a very cloudy day. Once we got above 8,000 feet we were in the clouds. It cleared up enough for us to get a nice summit view.
Coldwater Canyon - November 25, 2007 - There was snow on the summit of Box Elder Peak and Wellsville Cone. This trail is in the best condition of all of the ones I have done in the Wellsville Mountains. Great views, steep route, and nice hike along the ridge.
