From Rattlesnake Trail Head  Sucess!

We came up from the Rattlesnake Trail Head, which overall a pretty steep hike. The trail was pretty overgrown but nothing terrible. We didn't see a single other person and the fall leaves were amazing.

Clear and Hot  Sucess!

Started from Deep Canyon trailhead, gained the ridge just as the sun started hitting it. Saw tons, and I do mean an inordinate amount of flies, ants, caterpillars, and other assortments of many legged and winged bugs and critters. Hit Wellsville Cone before making the traverse to Box Elder. It's about 15 miles roundtrip when done as an out and back and as usual the descent always seems longer than the ascent

from Maple Bench TH  Sucess!

Coldwater Canyon trail to ridge, over Wellsville Cone, then Box Elder Peak. We descended a (signed) faint trail to a developed spring, continued to point 8626 (on divide between Brushy and Shumway Canyons) and then back up to ridge, down Coldwater Canyon trail. The CC trail was in poor condition at the time we hiked it. It was difficult to follow! Good to hike with someone familiar with the trail (thanks to David for joining us).

Rattlesnake Trail  Sucess!

Made it up and down in just under 5 hours in the wind with David, which was nice as it made for cooler conditions. The views were great all around, and I was surprised by how lush and green the lower sections of the trail were. It had been a while since I’d hiked a trail this steep, so my legs were a bit sore afterward, but it was great to finally bag this peak that I had always admired from the other side of Cache Valley as a small boy, wondering if I’d ever be able to make it to the top.

Wellsville Ridge  Sucess!

Hiked the Wellsville Ridge with my wife and sister. We started on the southern edge at Rattlesnake Gulch, and it was super overgrown and mega steep on the way up. The trail from Box Elder Peak all the way to Mendon is descent, but there are no trails to the unnamed peak, Pleasant View, or Scout Peak. Mendon Peak is a nightmare to ascend or descend on the western side, so I'd highly recommend tacking on some extra mileage and approaching and descending from the south. Super steep and overgrown descent down into Deep Canyon where we dropped the 2nd car. All-in-all—beautiful hike, but due to the neglect of the trail, I doubt I'll ever do it again.

Traverse from Deep Canyon to Box Elder Peak and Back :)  Sucess!

Long day, nice views. Probably wouldn't do the traverse again, but glad to have done it. :)

Up From Rattlesnake, Down from Coldwater West  Sucess!

Hit this peak while mapping for invasive weeds. Not too weedy up top. Smoggy day from the California fires. The brush seems to push you back as you get to the top of the Rattlesnake trail.

Box Elder  Sucess!

I had made a non-refundable hotel reservation in Logan Utah, for a wedding we were to attend, but the wedding changed dates. We decided to go anyway and do some peak bagging. Shaylee, Kimberly, and I set off to climb Wellsville Cone and Box Elder Peak from the Coldwater Trailhead. It was a more rugged trip than expected because the trail is steep, eroded, and brushy. It took a while to get to Stewart Pass.

Once at Stewart Pass, the trail was a bit better. Kim and Shaylee stopped at the summit of Wellsville Cone and returned to Stewart Pass, while I went on alone to climb Box Elder. I met them both at Stewart Pass and we descended down to the trailhead.

It was a more rugged trip than expected! After climbing the peaks we went to Chuck-A-Rama and saw the Everest movie to celebrate.

spring storms  Sucess!

had a good hike with mtybumpo. Brushy trail overall. A little fresh snow up high and generally inclement weather for May. Once the clouds lifted, great views as we headed down.

Wild Weather!  Sucess!

Climbed on a day with a terrible forecast but we were able to make the summit. It was pouring rain down low and then a blizzard at the summit. On our way down the clouds parted and treated us to a spectacular view.

Rattlesnake Trail  Sucess!

I'll agree with other hikers in saying that this is a steep hike. There's little chance in getting lost due to a trail that's easy to follow, and good directions here, but a lot of the trail is pretty overgrown with hardy brush that would scratch you up if you're not wearing pants.
Great views along the way. The leaves are changing. Saw a few people on the trail. Up and back in about five hours. No rattlesnakes. ;)

Nice hike  Sucess!

Via Rattlesnake Trail. The trail was easy to follow, but would benefit greatly from a machete.

On a date  Sucess!

Climbed this peak or perhaps Wellsville Cone in the spring of 1995 with my girlfriend. Had a delicious picnic lunch and a fun day on top.

Classic Wellsvilles  Sucess!

This was my 5th trip to the crest of the Wellsvilles, a beautiful place to take it all in. I did it solo and slept on the crest of the Wellsville Cone, talk about a room with a view.
