Route Climbed: Normal route Date Climbed: 28 Aug 2005
We walked up to Rifugio Theodulo from Cervinia in an afternoon and spent the night there. In the morning we plodded up the piste to Plateau Rosa then up to the plateau by Klein Matterhorn. Lovely sunny day, scores of people on the peak, hundreds of skiers. I ran out of steam at Col Breithorn and retreated to Cervinia by cable car (about 12 euro). The next day I took the cable back to Plateau Rosa and plodded easily up to Occidentale - about 3hrs in brilliant sunshine.
This is a lovely easy outing as long as the weather's good. In a white-out you could easily walk over the cliff or down a crevasse.
Route Climbed: Normal Date Climbed: 14 September, 2005
Climbed the Summit in snow storm with no views at all. It was our acclimatization and coming from Cervinia we did not use any cable cars. It took two days to climb the Summit.
Route Climbed: Normal Route from Kliene Matterhorn Date Climbed: Sept 20, 2005
Climb #6 on the Breithorn. Took four total beginners out as a ski tour. Cass had never worn a harness before, and the most experience was Ben with one easy snow climb under his belt (during that one we had to show him how to put on the crampons). All of them were skiing intermediate at best -- it was in fact the first "off piste run" for two of our team. Really hilarious watching them muppet their way down the mountain. Everybody had a blast.
Route Climbed: Normal from Trockener Steg - Plateu Rosa Date Climbed: 16th of september in 2005
It was the second 4000er we climbed. No difficulties reaching this summit...., but long walking up. We reach the summit 16:00 p.m. and we staid in Rifugio Guide del Cervino.
Route Climbed: Normal route (from Klein Matterhorn) Date Climbed: 24 July 2002
It was a fun climb and the views are fantastic. While trying to take a picture as I was coming back down I stumbled on my crampons, which showed everyone that I was a rank beginner, but all that was hurt was my pride.
Route Climbed: Normal Route (on skis) Date Climbed: Sept 12, 2005
Gonna see how many times I can climb this thing before I leave mid-November. :-)
This one was the best of the five though... first tracks on skis (although a dozen or so on foot ahead of me) in 25cm of beautiful powder snow. The 15 second decent not perhaps worth the 1 hour ascent, but good exercise. Finished off doing tricks in the Zermatt Gravity Park.
Amazing how many get so kitted out and serious about what is basically a dead-easy 1 hour walk in the snow! Passed many very serious-looking guided groups...
Route Climbed: From Piccolo Cervino Date Climbed: 24.08.2005
I climbed the Breithorn occidentale to Breithorn centrale from Piccole Cervino. The second ridge was not easy because there wasn't the path cause a lot of snow. Then we went to rifugio Guide d'Ayas.
Route Climbed: Normal Route (aka "The Anthill March") Date Climbed: Aug 25, 2005
Dusted off the skis for the first ski season of the winter! Seems 50cm+ fell up there, but unfortunately the wind got to it before I did... conditions going up were perfectly fine. The ski down was, well... better than *walking* down anyway. Nice to be back on skis and out on such a fine afternoon. Finished off hitting kickers in the Gravity Park.
Route Climbed: from Klein Matterhorn - with skis Date Climbed: July 17th, 2005
easy hike from the Klein Matterhorn cable car station. Shared the hike with thousands of others. My partner and I we brought skis - what a pleasure to descent. Perfect July snow conditions.
