Nice shot!I just read an article about how you guys are going to lose your old growth Caledonian pine forests due to overpopulation of red deer which graze out all of the young trees. Because Scotland no longer has wolves to thin out the deer.
Reintroduce the wolf!
(I once asked a Scottish naturalist why they hadn't done that and he said, "Are you daft?")

Re: Nice shot!The number of deer is a real problem and I agree about the wolf being reintroduced, nothing daft in that! I don't think the current idea of annual deer hunting and fencing the trees off from the deer is solving the problem. My mate was telling me about a programme he watched about an estate in northern Scotland where the landowner has just re-introduced moose and wild boar and he is talking about doing it with the wolf. Bring it on.

Re: Nice shot!Glad to hear you say that! It seems to me that there is enough habitat to support free-roaming wolves in Scotland. You just have to deal with the reaction of people who have had three hundred+ years of living without any big predators around. And set up some kind of fund to pay farmers for any lost sheep or cattle that fall victim to the occasional wolf depredation.
