One of the better views from the summits I've been on. This is a great steep trail but not too long. Averaging 30 ft/min vertical according to altimeter, we hit summit in 65 min from the road. Very satisfying.

My second and my wife's first high peak. A perfect day, and not at all crowded. September is a great time to be up there: people are back in work/school mode, but the summer weather persists. Word of advice: if you're going to try and do all 46 and are looking at doing Porter along with Cascade, do Porter first. The views from Porter are a bit disappointing after being on Cascade.

Wonderful winter hike suitable for the whole family--provided you have -- AND USE -- your snowshoes. Ours was a casual romp up an easy trail with a great snowshoe track, bare rock (no need for crampons) on top, but very exposed and windy. And cold. Unfortunately our start time was too late to allow for Porter as well.
The views from Cascade are 360 degrees and glorious, making this a very worthwhile hike.

The first time I climbed this peak it was a beautiful warm summer day. There were some thundershowers nearby though. My dad with with me and this was his first 46er peak. I also went and bagged Porter while my Dad rested at the trail junction.
The second time I climbed this was under winter conditions even though it was April. There were no views dues to fog, but I loved hiking in my new Tubbs Altitude 30 snowshoes. They did great! And the climb was a nice experience.
After driving by the trailhead many times, finally did the quick climb up this mountain on a drive home from Lake Placid. All I remember is that it was muddy.
Route Climbed: Normal Route from parking lot on route 73 Date Climbed: June-23-2002
First summit that I made as a whole family. Myself, my darling wife Ludmila and my little one Cecilia.
The trail in good condition but very wet after 15cm of rain the day before but it was a quick and easy hike even for my 6 year old daughter.
She really loved the exposed summit and the scamble on the way up to it.
This was about my 10th time up this peak via this trail and yet again I did not hve the chance to make the quick skip over to Porter to bag it as well. Maybe on the 11 time I'll make it.

Inspiring..............That pretty much sums it up. My first Adirondack high peak that has inpired me and my family to seek the only known cure for Adirondack Summit Fever..............by climbing the other 45.
