Great hike for elevation gain close to Boise
I hike this peak year round. I love that it's close to Boise, and easy TH access for low clearance vehicles. I also love that you can get 1800 feet of gain in 4.5 miles RT. It's a great training hike with views of Robie Creek and Lucky Peak reservoir.
#1 04-07-22 W/Lana. 1+30 up on a pleasant day. We intentionally took the most undulating route, avoiding bypasses, and the result was an exercise in navigating ups and down galore. It was a fun hike because of its variety. Our goal is to climb at least three of the Grand Slam peaks on our short stay in Boise. (We did get 2 more).
Drove from Salt Lake City. In the area for my grand daughter's climbing competition at Vertical View. Decided to grab some peaks while in the area. Fun little jaunt.

Try the Direct West Ridge for more fun and suffering!
It's a great workout but takes longer to drive out there from downtown Boise than to hike up it, if you're hiking fast. Fun in the spring with all the balsamroot, less so after everything browns over. It's lost its novelty a little for me by now, but the West Ridge is still a good challenge, especially if you caravan it so you have a car waiting for you at the main lot so you can descend the standard route (wouldn't want to descend the West Ridge). Standard route is still a good benchmark of fitness though!
Awesome training hike super close to my house! PM me if you'd like to join! Typically I do dawn patrol (need to get to the summit by 7:30 in order to make it to the office in time!)

First of many!
First hike up the hill that I stare at from my house every day! It was awesome. a butt kicker, but definitely something I'm going to start doing weekly. I'll bring a new summit register up this week. The one there was full full full!! Lots of traffic! Makes me kick myself for not doing it earlier!

New Years Eve Hike
A nice little snow hike along the west ridge for New Year's Eve with some folks from IdahoSummits. I'm sure that I'll be returning for some quick training!
Good peak for training for trail runs or steep slopes.

Who took the flag??
Really love this little peak. Brought my kids and girlfriend up for their first-ever summit. Just a few minor patches of snow to cross at the top, but nothing my 10 year old daughter had any trouble with.
***So, the infamous flag, bottle of bourbon, and registry box were all gone. There was a ziplock baggie under a rock with a note from someone with the Fish & Game department. It said "I have your flag. If you want it, call.." but moisture had gotten into the bag so we couldn't read anything else.
I guess I don't understand why it would be taken. Seems pretty ridiculous to me.

SE Ridge
Made an 8 mile ridgewalk of the day, hitting several other peaklets. Turned around just after 4849. Huge amounts of deer poop in this area, but saw no deer - just one blue racer snake and some butterflies. No other people. Scenic green hillsides and lupine still in bloom, along with perfect weather. Total time 6 hours, moderate pace with a few leisurely stops.
4/13 note: Have summitted this a few more times since original date. That's because it's a FAST training hike. From home to summit and back home, someone in N or E Boise can get this done in ONLY 4 HOURS. Highly recommended, and different experience every time.

New Year's Eve
Finally met up with my IdahoSummits peeps for a night time ascent of this little gem. Conditions were perfect, still and beautiful. Guided by moonlight it was the perfect end to the 2011 season and start for the 2012.
