Boulder hopped down from the south side of Mt Mitchell into the canyon between Mt Mitchell and Charons Garden Mountain. From there I went west up a gully to reach the north side of Charons garden mountain. Climbed the north face with easy class 3 scrambles to the summit. Saw 3 Elks on the way. Great views of the wilderness area form the top. Next peak was Granite mount. First went west from summit but after a couple of reroutes went down on a south west route.

Awesome View
My son, Ben, and I climbed this rugged mountain and were thrilled by an awesome view of the SW region of the WMWR.
This was my favorite Wichita summit, aside from the Crab Eyes. Last time I climbed it I sat in a large boulder-made cave during a rain storm and watched some fighters dogfighting. I am not sure if they were from Shephard or Altus Air Force base, but it was memorable!

Fun climb, excellent weather. Summited at about 3:30-4:00 with temperatures in the upper 40s. Another climb in good weather in April. A little bit of overgrowth on the way, but not too bad.
