Cool hike
This is a short but relatively steep hike. But the rock-like formation near the summit that gives the mountain its name is quite fascinating.

Th top was the best, I was in Herkimer county most of the week went to the mountian on the way home; the only day it did not rain. But I could not find the caves. Were were they?
The caves are to the west of and below the tower. They are all "breakdown" caves, formed from large blocks of metamorphic rock.

First mountain for me
This was both my first mountain (was a high schooler) and the only time I went spelunking, ah to be young and foolhardy!

technical skills?
I climbed the spire 3 times one day in 1972, and once in 1975. I don't recall that we used much in the way of technical skills, except the fact that we were young and stupid.

eagle cave
Climbed this one for the trip to eagle cave. Did it with my girlfriend as part of my birthday weekend trip to the mountains.

Fun scramble at the top
An easy hike up, with interesting bouldering and small caving opportunities at the summit.

Chimney Mt. from King's Flow
A very short, easy hike, with no technical climbing whatsoever needed to reach the summit. However, climbing the "chimney" itself would require real rock climbing skills and (unless you free solo) equipment. Probably an easy climb for most rock climbers, but I am not. I was with my girlfriend Sue and her son Chase, who accompanied me to a small family reunion at one of the cabins on King's Flow, where the trailhead is located. Apparently, my 80-year-old grandfather hiked to the summit the next day with my mom and my aunt! So, unless it's winter, if you're interested in climbing the chimney or spelunking near the summit, don't fear this approach. If Grandpa Russ could do it, you can.
