Cool Respite
The basin provides a cool respite from the summer heat down below. And, the restaurant must have the best sunset view in the entire state of Texas!

Surprise!
I love the environment of the Chisos Basin. One of my favorite memories is watching a thunderstorm bounce around the basin while having lunch. I think this is a beautiful, fantastic area, but I was a little surprised at the grocery store (do you really need a 24oz Rock Star?) and all the pavement.

Mountains and more
Have made several trips to the Chisos Mountains and hiked many of the trails including Outer Mt Loop, Window and lost Mine. The Basin is an oasis in the desert and a relief from the desert heat below but all of big Bend is worth exploring and if remoteness and space are what you seek head to the desert.
