According to the Dizionario Etimologico della Lingua Italiana by Cortelazzo and Zolli, the term brenta was used over a wide area going approximately from French Switzerland to Emilia. It is well documented since the thirteenth century. I guess it was you who, some time ago, pointed out that the names Cadini and Catinaccio have similar explanations.
I'll work the etymology stuff into the main page, though, maybe, I should put it on the main Brenta Group page, since in this case the group gave the name to the summit rather than the other way around.
