Beautiful but chilly looking!I had missed your recent photos, til this morning. This is not the American armchair traveler's vision of Provence!

Re: Beautiful but chilly looking! No, there are som quite high mountains here, up to aound 11000 ft. However, the chilly look is due to the time of year, late September. Two months earlier you might not have found much snow at this height.

Re: Great ShotThank you for the comment, it wasn't that cold here, it was around noon and the temperature was some degrees above freezing. Still, coming up from Nice at 27 degrees C (80 degrees F) it felt very fresh.

Very beautiful, sharp picture/ unique composure! What a beautiful, crisp clear picture! And a unique composure of a strange looking mountain as well. It almost looks like an unpaved road has been build alongside the mountain, starting at the bottom and going halfway up untill it disappears around the corner of the mountain!

Re: Very beautiful, sharp picture/ unique composure!Thank you. Yes, you are right, there is a (paved) road going around the mountain, this is the pass road of the Col de la Bonette, the highest automobile road in Europe (2802 m, 9320 ft.).

If I recall...the Tour De France went over this col in the 1990's. Lead by climbing ace Robert Millar of Scotland. He was eventually reeled in by the peloton before the end of the stage after a valiant effort in the mountains.

Re: If I recall...That's quite possible, there is a good paved road, and I know that they regularly go over the Col de la Galibier, which is only about 150 m/45O ft. lower.
