second of two for the day
Easily the peak I have enjoyed the most in the Adirondacks so far. Involves actual climbing. Ten hour and forty minute day when including Redfield from the Upper Works TH.

Gorgeous Winter Day
We came in, slept at the lean-to, hiked up Redfield and Cliff the next day, came back and crashed at the lean-to again for another night out and hiked out very early the next morning (4am gah) to catch a flight home. Lovely little summit, tons of fun going up the little icy bits. A group of 6 went up just before us and then down an alternate route which I am told takes out 2 miles. We thought of following them but stuck to the longer tried and true path. #40!!! Almost there.
Came up from the Loj via Lake Arnold trail on a perfect day. Sumited Mt Redfield and Cliff Mt and returned via Avalanche Pass. Awesome loop hike, about 20 miles, 11 1/2 hours. Cliff Mt was a huge mud bog to start, but the cliffs were fun and got some cool pictures. I didn't know there was a false summit and the trail seemed more like 1 mile than the .5 mile trail I was expecting. Great time though, not bad after the mud.

Great day in the high peaks
#44/46 with RD Jim. Successful climb after Redfield. Incredible weather, clear skies, cool breezes, and NO BUGS. Amazing for May! 12.5 hours RT from Upper Works, including Redfield.
Summited Cliff Mountain during a 3 day backpacking trip. We came in late in the day from the Upper Works Trailhead and stayed Friday night at one of the Calamity Lean-Tos. In them morning we followed the trail from Lake Colden to Uphill Lean-to and climbed Redfield first, and Cliff second. Stayed the night again and came back the way we started on Sunday Morning. While officially trailess, I would find it difficult to get lost since the herd paths are well defined for both mountains.

Muddy/Cliffy/Loggy
I love being in the woods, but I really have no desire to return here. There was a mud bog down low, steep cliffs on the way up and dead trees and blowdown all over the ridge. All in all a tough short hike up/down. Nice views from cliffs on the way down though.

Gray, Redfield and Cliff from Lake Colden
Canadian thanksgiving weekend. Summer weather throughout. We left Montreal at 3 pm and started hiking at 7 pm in the dark from South Meadows. We camped at avalanche lake tent site. Next morning we dropped our stuff at Lake Colden and hiked Gray from Lake Tear. First unmaintained trail to summit. The day after, we hiked Redfield from Uphill lean-to and met a lady 46er and her son. Desccended to the fork with the trail to Cliff Mt. An a propos name for that mountain. On the 10th we hiked back to the car and stopped at the Mountaineers in Keene.

Cliff Mountain
Climbed with Redfield via Uphill Brook Trail from Tahawus. The herd path from the Uphill Brook Lean-to was murder. The path is covered with blowdown for almost the whole way. I imagine in winter you might be able to get above the blowdown but not in October! Even the sign at the top was busted. Not much in the way of views either. Oh well.
Went out for a long day from ADK Log through Arnold Pass on the way to the peaks and back through Avalanche Pass on the way out. Beautiful weather. Views from Cliff aren't half bad. The herds path is easy to find and the new re-route around the swampiness at the beginning of the Twin Brook Trail is nice.

From Upper Works
Hit Cliff after Redfield. Fortunately, Cliff had been broken so we had a decent path up the mountain. Steep sections! Exhausting day hike to do both Redfield and Cliff with the amount of fresh snow on the trail but we did it. #25/46! : )
