WoohooI remember driving in from a distance, and you could see all the mountains disappearing in the clouds. Then, when you panned up your vision a bit, there was one summit sticking out of the clouds: Aoraki, the cloud piercer!
Must have been amazing to stand on top of it, congratulations on reaching the summit! Cool how blue lake Pukaki is even from up here.
Cheers,
Rick

Re: absolutely woohooOh wow that looks interesting! Just how serious was that trailer? Is there really going to be a big movie, or .. ? I thought it was quite serious, until the 'mum' quote :-))
Anyway, I'd be interested to see some more photos or footage of the climb.
Cheers,
Rick

Re: Like itThanks Charles but I flew in and out and had a guide. Next time, I would like to try a more 'pure' attempt.

It looks so different now!The last time I was there was 4 years before it lost it's summit. There was a huge ice cave right below the summit that seemed much bigger than 2 years previous.I remember thinking that it looked kind of strange. I wonder if this had anything to do with the collapse.

Where did the summit block fall from?Looks to me like a straight biffy-snowcrest, can't imagine a solid mass perched up there. Stunning picture though, thanks for posting it!
