Climbing on the Inspiration Traverse

Climbing on the Inspiration Traverse

Taken August 3rd, 2015 by Matt Lemke on Austera Peak. You can see smoke rising above Mount Goode which made for a dramatic scene that made it intimidating due to potential bad air quality. The fire was so bad that it made the front page of Wikipedia (other fires contributed to this). On this climb I was reminded that my passion for mountain climbing was well intact despite all the head aches/back pain I was suffering with as a result of my climbing accident. This was my favorite adventure of the year. Due to increasing fire danger through out the entire state I had to quit climbing for a while.

Smoke

I had to quit climbing for 2 weeks because of all the smoke. I stayed indoors with the air filter running. I believe it was the worst fire season in Washington history. I hope this year is better.
