Re: very coolWhen the Diamond Couloir was first climbed there was a distinctive long tongue of vertical ice that connected the base of the couloir to the lower-angled upper sections. This vertical section of ice has apparently not formed again, and the steep rock is now climbed by means of some modern mixed trickery.
There general trend is still warming and melting of the glaciers, but - as can be seen from the photos - substantial ice does still form after a sufficiently wet winter season.

Great shot.Great shot, but not the head-wall I think. The head-wall is in the far distance, a couple of hundred feet of sustained, very exposed climbing further on.
It's where the Ice Window Route (which no longer exists in its original form) joins it just below what used to be The Diamond Glacier - now just a few patches of ice.
The Diamond Couloir is now much harder than when Snyder and Mathenge put it up in '73.
