Long Day  Sucess!

A long day hike from West Tensleep Trailhead. There was more snow on top than I had anticipated. Started at 6 am and back to the trailhead at 7 pm. I was sunburned, blistered, and bug bitten, but it was worth it.

Altitude sickness  Sucess!

My sister and I climbed up, but she stopped 500 ft below the summit due to a bad case of altitude sickness while I quickly scrambled to the top. We hiked out that same day. If you have the time I suggest spending the night after the climb. Also, bring plenty of bug spray.

Misty Moon Trail  Sucess!

Our party of 3 AARP-eligible hikers spent 5 days camped at Mistymoon Lake. Made it up Cloud Peak with no problems on a spectacular day. Met several people on the mountain that day, including one runner who reached the summit about two hours after leaving the West Tensleep trailhead.

Over Nighter  Sucess!

The party consisted of 5 people ranging from 13 to 60 years old. We hiked in on a Friday from West Tensleep Lake TH. The weather was windy and cloudy most of the day. Friday night was spent NW of Misty Moon Lake. Saturday the weather was beautiful. My brother had packed in a coleman stove so we had bacon and eggs for breakfast. It really hit the spot. Everyone made it up to the top and by 2:30 pm we were back at camp. After a half hour of resting we broke camp and hiked out.

Delayed by snow  Sucess!

We hiked up from West Tensleep and camped at the base of the peak but got hit in the night by a big snowstorm. So we delayed the ascent by a day and hiked up the canyon with the Cloud Peak Lakes until the summit was looming above us in the clouds. We returned to camp and climbed Cloud Peak the next day. There was still a lot of snow on top which made negotiating the boulders more difficult, but it was a beautiful day with beautiful views.

West Tensleep Lake TH

Hiked in right after a climb on Devils Tower to Helen Lake. Started at 4:00 am the next morning off 5 hours of sleep but had to turn about 1/2 mile from the summit due to weather.

Its a beautiful approach, but we needed more time and a closer base camp, a pretty brutal summit bid.

Hiked out same day and off to the Tetons!

Virginia Boys

My sons, nephew and I headed the mountain about 9:00 am. It was a beautiful morning. By the time we reached 12,200 ft. the clouds were piling up on top so we chose to head down. We wanted to make the top, but it wasn't worth the risk. We had a great trip and are planning to return to finish what we started

in a day  Sucess!

climbed it in a day from Bald Ridge, we took Wilderness Basin (our original plan was to climb Black Tooth, but there was too much snow), then climbed a chute on the north side of the west cirque. We summited at 3 pm with 4 inches of snow on the summit. We came down on the standard route. The whole trip took us 12 hours and we did about 20 miles :)

snow shower  Sucess!

My parents and I camped at Mistymoon Lake and only me my dad and brother made the summit. A light snow storm got us on our way down the summit because we started a bit to late.

MistyMoon  Sucess!

Dennis Poulin and I hiked in on the late afternoon of the 23rd and camped at Misty Moon Lake. The mosquitos were waiting in force at the trailhead and attacked all the way up to the lake. We met a group of 12 guys from Wisconsin whom we caught up and they knew a mutual acquaintance which was pretty amazing. After talking with these guys for awhile, we continued on and Dennis was the first to summit and was waiting for me when I got up there too. It was my 200th county highpoint so it had a special meaning. As far as we know, 11 of the 12 Wisconsin group made the summit as one had altitude sickness and stayed at a lower elevation to wait for his friends. We hiked out in the morning but the mosquitos were fierce when we got back to camp. Beautiful area.

Misty Moon Trail  Sucess!

I hiked up Cloud Peak with a large group of friends, camping at a lake just before Misty Moon (can't remember its name). Everyone in our group of roughly 9 made it up in fairly good time. We camped at the same place that night, and then disaster struck. I suffered from a ruptured appendix and perforated small intestine that night (this was not related to or a result of the hike). My friends had to carry my sorry self out nearly 3 miles to be medevaced. Thank God they were there, they saved my life. Also got some valuable assitance from kind hikers along the way, I wish I knew their names to properly thank them. In the end I spent 11 days in the hospital, 3 in the ICU and had two surgeries, but I'm fully recovered now.

But other than that it was a great time! If any of you that read this were on the trail at that time and helped, my most sincere thanks go out to you, I'm alive today because of your generous help. God bless.

Big Game?  Sucess!

The oddest part about Cloud was that I came upon a freshly killed buck EXTREMELY high on the mountain. In fact, I had only descended a couple of hundred vertical feet from the peak. Grizzly? Mountain Lion? I didn't stick around long enough to look for tracks.

standard route  Sucess!

Drove from MN, arrived at trailhead around 5pm, hiked in and set up camp in a great area on northwest side of Lake marion. Was on trail around 6am and began hiking around mistymoon and started up standard route. Reached summit around 11, a little slow due to not being acclimated. Took a 30 min nap overlooking the glacier near summit. Casually descended and arrived back in camp around 4. Great day, perfect weather, and a nice climb.

Mistymoon Trail  Sucess!

Did this within 48 hours using parts of three days. Camped at Mistymoon Lake. The climb was easier than I had been led to believe in terms of the boulder hopping aspect. We encountered a couple of lady geologists who were taking rock samples. My friend Duane offered to help carry them down, which they accepted of course. All those jokes about rocks in our packs - well they came true on that day. Great area, great climb.

Route Climbed: Misty Moon Date Climbed: August 1979  Sucess!

I did this with my Dad when I was in High School. We were camping at GunBoat lake, so we added a bit of a walk to our trip. My memory of the ascent is a little dim. There is a false summit followed by a fun Knife ridge.I am the same age now as he was then.

It was my first 13er.

Years later my dad told me it was one of the most challenging hikes he had ever done.

The view from the top is stunning.
