Route Climbed: from Happy Isles Date Climbed: June 11th, 2005
Started around 10:30am from Happy Isles and reached the summit by 4:30pm. Would have made it faster ,but up towards the top there was snow. Enjoyed the views of all the snow caps ,then left about 5:00pm making it back to Happy Isles by 8:30pm. I liked the hike better then half-dome.
Route Climbed: Northeast Ridge Date Climbed: June or July 2000
I was a little concerned about climbing Cloud's Rest, since the Tuolumne hiking guide said that it is not one for the "acrophobis", which I considered myself to be at the time. But man, there is nothing like a shweeping wave of granite to make you forget about all those piddling human concerns. What a great peak.
Route Climbed: Northeast Ridge Date Climbed: Aug 2004
Easy hike with a good view of the valley. The initial section was a little steep but not very long. What bummed me out was the loss of hard gained elevation afterwards. Reached the summit in about 3 hrs. Had lunch at the peak with fellow hikers and a domesticated chipmunk.
Route Climbed: South Slope (from Happy Isles) Date Climbed: October 2, 2004
Hiked with William Felten, Gil & Eve. We started from Happy Isles at 9:45am. I hiked at their pace. We had lunch at noon near Little Yosemite Valley and rested there for almost an hour. From there, they slowed down, so at the junction with the Half Dome trail and JMT trail I told them I'd go at my own pace. Higher up (at approx 8200'), great views opened up with the Clark Range dominating the southern horizon. I got to the top at 3:20pm. Twenty-five minutes later Will arrived at the top but Gil & Eve had turned around lower down. We had dark clouds on top but no thunder to be heard; regardless, Will and I both left the top ten minutes after Will had arrived at the summit. We were back at Happy Isles by 7:50pm.
Route Climbed: Northeast ridge, descent via south slope Date Climbed: July 3 2004
Surprisingly not too crowded once past the first few miles until the junction to the Half dome trail. There are also two virtual geocaches on Cloud's Rest.
Route Climbed: from Happy Isles Date Climbed: July 1996
A pretty long hike from what I remember. It is marginally harder then Half Dome, but the view is not quite as astounding. Hiking it is a good option for those who have already been up Half Dome and are looking for something different
Route Climbed: Tenaya Lake Date Climbed: Aug. 8th, 2004
Started at Tenaya Lake trailhead at 7 am and headed out with bpgbennett towards Clouds Rest. Reached the top at 10 am. Very few people and wonderful views of, well, everything. We then headed out to summit Half Dome on our 12 hour, 21 mile traverse to the Valley floor.
Route Climbed: Sunrise Lakes trail. Date Climbed: June 2004
Another great day in the Yosemite backcountry. Views of Half Dome and the valley are worth the hike. Lots of people - though not near as many as on Half Dome.
Route Climbed: NE Ridge Date Climbed: 19 June 2004
Climbed with Annette and friends. Started at about 10am at Sunrise Trailhead, summitted about 4pm. We were carrying packs for an overnight stay, so not a bad dayhike. Some afternoon clouds, but generally great weather the entire weekend (I recommend earlier in the day summits for best un-clouded views).
Route Climbed: from happy isle-mist trail-JMT-cloud rest trail Date Climbed: 03282004
climbed with tsteine.
took slightly more than 7hrs on the way up and 4.5 hrs down. grand view of half dome and the valley and the surrounding ranges. above 9000 feet, (beyond the switchbacks) snow persist, snowshoe came in handy.
other than a few backcountry campers on our way up and a few pple on our way down near nevada falls, we didn't run into anybody. Nice spring sunday for some solitude in Yosemite, along a trail that would have been crowded during summer.
Route Climbed: John Muir Trail Date Climbed: March 28 2004
We started from the valley at 6 am and reached the summit ridge at about noon, where it was very helpful to have snowshoes. We summited at 1:30 pm and were rewarded with a fantastic view. Back by 6:30 pm
