West Ridge
A pretty straightforward route up the ridge to the peak starting from Woods Lake. Made the summit at 8 am and got whacked by thunderstorms on the way down.

West ridge from Colosseum Col
First peak on a 7 day trip between Sawmill and Taboose Passes. The SPS register was on the east summit so I brought it back to the west summit. Trip report

Colosseum and Perkins Dayhike
Dayhiked Colosseum and Perkins from 8,000’ in Armstrong Canyon. The road was tough on my truck. The climb was tough on me. The big notch in the north ridge wasn’t as bad as I expected. I didn’t do any class 4. I climbed directly up class 3 rock to the summit from the last notch. Going around to the left would have involved steep, soft, deep, wet snow without gaiters or an axe. Glad this one is done!

On the way out . . .
Dropped off M & R near Pinchot pass and headed back down the Sawmill Trail. Decided to go over Colosseum on the way out via Armstrong Col and N ridge, then down to woods lake and out over Sawmill.
I found the chute encountered in N ridge route to be loose and unpleasant - but the rest of the climb was great!

Up the SW Slope/Chute
I was part of a party of 5 that climbed Baxter's N face in the morning and Colosseum's SW slope afterward. Great spring day in the High Sierra.

Perkins-Colosseum-Cedric Wright dayhike
Starting at Scotty Springs, hiked up Armstrong Canyon to Perkins (a rather awful sand climb), then traversed along the Sierra Crest to Colosseum. (Colosseum's North Ridge is fun class 3-4, and undoubtedly the best way to climb the peak--stay as close to the ridge as possible for the best rock, exposure, and scrambling). Descended very sandy slopes to Colosseum Col, before heading up to Cedric Wright, then back down the Sawmill Pass trail. Long day.
This was both the first and last time I plan to hike along the Sawmill Pass trail, by the way. Even just heading downhill, it seemed long and tiring. I can't imagine hauling a backpack up that thing.

Southwest Chute
Up from camp at Sawmill Lake, through the pass, and up a steep class 2 chute ending up almost half a mile south of the summit. Descended the west ridge, then back to camp. First entry in the register this year.
