First Intentional County High Point
A friend and I met up in Wytheville and felt like hiking, so I looked up the high point of the county, and we drove out to tag it. We hiked up from US-21 via the forest service road, which wound its way onto the ridge, then followed it east through the forest to the Rock. The view up top was better than I'd expected from the pictures here: they've built a viewing platform on top of the fire tower's old footprint and trimmed back the brush to give a near-360-degree view of the surrounding hills and valleys. I certainly enjoyed the hike, and I'd recommend it to anyone passing through along I-81 or I-77.
