swamp hiking  Sucess!

Took two hours to get here from the summit of Santanoni and when I crossed the bog I went in hip deep. On the way back it poured rain. Typical Dacks for me.

Love hate relationship   Sucess!

It was our third time up in the Santanonis and we finally bagged Couch. Typically I’m all for remote type 2 adventures but this one will live in infamy as one of my least favorite. But once you reach the actual peak there are some pretty cool views of Santanoni and Panther which I appreciated after the long slog.

Second Time's a Charm  Sucess!

Didn't make it to Couchsachraga my last time up here, so came back for more. I came up the Santanoni Express trail up because I wanted to get more pictures on Santanoni today also. The summit was socked in by clouds though...oh well. Tackled Couchie next, and wow, what a long way down it seemed! Who's idea was it to put Couchsachraga on the 46er list??? 1 hour out, then 1 hour back, wasn't so bad after all. Nice fall day to be out and not too bad with the mud. #43/46.

#27/46 Couchsachraga  Sucess!

It was a long way out to Poor Couchie. I liked this 'runt of the litter'. Oh and it was a long way up to get back for the final summit of the day, Panther.

My third peak of the day solo after Santa and Panther. Yes, I was starting to get tired by now. Great day!

Santanoni, Panther and Couch  Sucess!

Dan waited for Jason and I to tag Couch on this trip. He was our guide and opted to take a nap while we journeyed out to get this one.

Couchsachraga Peak  Sucess!

Summited Couchsachraga Peak 3820' during a weekend backpacking trip. Our group stayed at the Santanoni Lean-To after the hike in hiking a few miles on Friday, we summited all 3 peaks of the Santanoni Range on Saturday under excellent weather, stayed the night again and turned in on Sunday morning. The heard paths are in good shape, but they are muddy as can be and can be difficult to navigate.

President's weekend  Sucess!

beautiful conditions. fresh powder. trail packed down by snow shoers ahead of us. blue sky. no wind. a gorgeous hike quite peaceful. not the drudge hike I thought it was going to be. Had a banana Gu shot when we got to the swamp. that helped. Once you reach the swamp, you are half way...then 3 false peaks. It's a good trail for short people. Got slapped square in the eyeball by a unforgiving spruce. Wear goggles or something!

enjoy!!!!

Santi Range  Sucess!

Climbed after Panther before Santi. Kind of a thankless peak.

Couchi-Coo  Sucess!

I reiterate mavso, lonely little outpost in the ADKs with glimpses into some very remote sections of the park.

Final peak of the range - the normal way from Times Square  Sucess!

Skies looked threatening, but being so close, did not want to pass on the chance to be done with the range. Great day with my brother and sister (who did not go over to Couch). Never saw a drop of rain. Very dry, found no water till back down at Panther Brook - even the bog was tame. This leaves Seymour, Allen, and Dix for my 46.

Good day in the ADK  Sucess!

This was a long day hiking Santanoni and Panther the same day.The summit of coochie was surprisingly packed with people. For being far and remote this one grabbed attention. The summit rock is only ,say 12x12ft,but held 15 people.I thought the veiws were ok too....Jim W

Bradley Pond to Times Square  Sucess!

This was my first winter backpacking trip. I realized how much I loved snowshoeing through the trails and up mountains, but how much I hate freezing at camp. Great mountain... long, rewarding trek to get there

Herd Path from Times Square  Sucess!

Wow, this one was a pain. A lot of hearbreaking down hill sections, a lot of mud, and a lot of branches in the face. It felt like I got in a catfight. But the peak offered nice views. We did this round trip ( from times square ) in 2 hours.

Couchsachraga Peak  Sucess!

Climbed via the Duck Hole Trail from Tahawus. A long and muddy approach. The herd path was so narrow and muddy it was sometimes very difficult to negotiate. Good weather and suprisingly decent views from the summit made this "fake" 4000-footer worthwhile.

From Times Square  Sucess!

Climbed with Paul. Harder than I thought. Lots of spruce traps and getting whipped in the face by rogue tree branches. Nice sunshine at the top though. #27/46

Climbed via herd path from Times Square  Sucess!

It's a great little mountain in the middle of nowhere. Perfect for those who like mud more than crowds.
