Duncannon is definitely worth a stop! It is one of the friendliest trail towns I've had the pleasure of stopping in with genuinely friendly people (it's not like hikers have a lot of money to spend). High points include the Pub (and the Pub Burgers, ask for Sedentary Steve) and the Doyle Hotel ($15/night for bed and shower, pure heaven!).
Britt has struck again! Great page on one of the key, missing mountains in PA. The geology notes are quite interesting and it would be great to add a satellite view or something. It's one of those situations which is so incredibly obvious when viewed from above. Nice little mountain.
Thanks Charles for the kind comments and the good photos! This is a great little mountain that I've been wanting to add for a while, it's just that every time I had an open day to hike it the rain would come, LOL! But It's finally here and now I just have to add my pictures. I'm going down to Pole Steeple in two weeks so you can look forward to that page. Thanks again and have a good one Charles!
There are a couple places to get aerial photos and/or satellite images. GlobeXplorer is a nice one but requires you to actually buy the images. AcmeMapper is another and is free.
I have a beautiful poster showing LandSat images of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed (which includes the interestingly folded parts of PA). The web version pales in comparison, but can be found at this link. It makes the large-scale geology painfully obvious.
Thanks Charles! I'll work on incorporating that into the page within the next day or so. Thanks so much for all your help and enthusiasm! You have a good one and I'll see ya around!

Untitled CommentGood page on an Appalachian Trail summit. I've seen the Duncannon exit on I-80 and now I know there is a good reason to stop.
