I'm gonna try this one out for sure, as soon as I visit my daughter who just recently moved to San Diego!
Wish I'd known about this place when I used to go to San Diego every year.
Cowles Mountain is on the western edge of the Southern California batholith that makes up the Peninsular Range, along with Fortuna, Palomar, Cuyamaca, etc. The eastern edge extends into Anza Borrego, though not as far as it does to the west.
