Hiked around
It's easy to get to by only using public transport. We started in Quito, bused to Otavalo, another bus to Quiroga, then took a pickup to the trail. The trail is nice, but the last hour was just on a dusty road. I think I was spoiled by Quilatoa, because I just wasn't as impressed here. Too much man-made stuff in sight. It took us about 4 hours to get around.

Beautiful lake
I stayed at the cabins on the crater rim (15USD), had a beautiful sunset from the roof of the restaurant with clear views of Imbabura, Fuya Fuya, Cotacachi, even Cayembe. Went around the lake the next day with more clouds. Probably the nicest crater lake I've seen.

Beautiful day to hike the well maintained crater rim trail. I hiked with Janna (GER) and Barbara (GER).
We started the hike by the southern Trailhead. The trail was pretty dry with only a few spots of mud. We got halfway the trail and to the highest point (3,200 m) after half an hour of hiking. The three of us finished the hike at the Reserve entrance after 3 hours 20 minutes of hiking. Pretty fast ah?
Nice views of the surroundings from up there.

Nice weekend tour.
Hired a truck from the town of Quiroga to Cuicocha. Short walk to the restaurant on the hill and a boat tour to the couple of small mountains in the center of the crater.
It is easy to see bubbles coming out of the water, showing the activity of this volcano. The boat driver (native guide) has good knowledge of the crater and surroundings.
Nice sunny day.
