Was joined by my friend Rich. We camped at the ranch gate where we are met by Carlos at 6 in the morning. After getting checked in with the 20 or so other people we drove up the good, but steep, dirt road to the upper parking area. Rich and I headed up to the ridge on the left and then circled past the huge cairn before hitting the final ridge ascent. While not a big fan of paying to hike, I'd say the $100 was well spent for the weather was great, the scenery glorious, and Carlos was very friendly and helpful to a late arriver.

Summer & Winter
6/25/06 - Dreary day. Hiked with large 14ers.com group. The weather looked threatening all morning and I finished the hike just before it let loose. Crappy weather sucks worse than normal when money is on the line.
3/6/10 - I appreciated the opportunity for a winter ascent of this peak despite the $200 price tag. There was a lot of snow down low so we had to start from the ranch gate making it about 18 miles and 5750 feet RT. 2/3 of the group (not I) used mechanical assistance to some degree (Carlos was offering sled rides and five others brought their own rides to Fourway). It would have been 20 miles, 6900 feet RT if someone were to sneak over to Red Mountain too, but who would do such a thing?

Group climb of Culebra. Nice weather, a bit chilly but nice. Shared the summit with a marmot.

14ers.com climb
This was a 14ers.com climb of Culebra. We paid the extra $50 and climbed Red as well. We were hurried on the way back from Red by a thunder storm. This was my third climb of Culebra and my second climb of Red.

Franklin Peak...errrr Culebra Peak
Hiked the "standard" route up Culebra on a ever changing weather day with great friends Alan and Patrick. Although I'm still partially bugged about paying $100 to hike to the summit (I know, I know it's private property), I have to say it is probably the prettiest 14er I've hiked in a long time. Abundant marmots with young, an elk herd below treeline and a sweet 4WD road to the upper lot with little impact from humanity in the sense of not a well worn trail but one heck of a cairn midway up. Worth it...

nellis' finisher
hiked culebra with my baby, jamie nellis, to celebrate her finishing the fourteeners! clouds moved in early and the took views with them. we had fun nonetheless. a lost side trip to red mountain was the lone causality of the cool, spooky ridge walk in the clouds.
congrats baby, i love you!

Mt. $100!!!
Spent the day in and out of the clouds going up the ridge route and down the Roach route with climbing partners Alan and Robert.
After an exhausting climb the previous week in the Blanca group, it was nice to take a leisurely stroll up this expensive heap of rocks. Traversed to Red afterward.

Culebra with the pup
Marni and I joined a group of friendly dog owners for the first legal dog climbing of Culebra peak in 10 years (or so we heard). It was a pretty cold and windy day but the snow was manageable and we got the summit in sunshine. Number 9 for me and Marni and number 53 for another Golden Retriever we were with, Sawyer. Thanks to Josh for organizing the trip.

This was my second climb of Culebra. There was still lots of snow on the mountain & the blocking the road before Four Way. There was also a mother mountain lion with a couple cubs watching us from her den.

Culebra Peak and Red Mountain
From Cielo Vista Ranch, paid the $150.00 and hiked the Northwest Ridge to Culebra Peak and continued on to Red Mountain. This was the last day of the year that Cielo Vista Ranch was allowing climbers on their property. Hunters came for the remainder of the year.

Good times
I hiked Culebra with a group from 14ers.com and had a great day a fun bunch of people. I have to agree, however, 100 dollars is a little steep.
