I did the clockwise version of the loop described here, from my campsite in Horseshoe campground. Yes, I lost trail 1803 (Chinese Wall trail) as I traveled north - it just faded out in the alpine tundra. I followed the widely-spaced tall wooden posts that someone erected - it turns out that they do serve to guide hikers to the DC.
