Such an interest place to see. Too bad there is not a way to see it all from a fair distance. Seeing it so close, section by section, limits its perceived grandeur.

Easy trail. We took our then 1-year old girl all the way there in a stroller.
What I'd really like to do go is on on and explore the Ansel Adams wilderness...Some day when we have more time and the kids are not too young.
One fine day, in about 1976, and again a couple of times since. The magic of nature. Who'da thunk rock could be shaped like this?!

devils postpile
We went to Mammoth Lakes area to mountain bike. The next day we took the shuttle bus to Reds Meadow and hiked to Devils Postpile and then on to Rainbow Falls. The hike to Devils Postpile is short from the bus stop. There is a trail to the top where one can look down onto the trail and the forest. It is a short hike and also it's a loop. The trail continues on to Rainbow Falls and goes through the forest although there had been a fire 10 years earlier so no shade.
My grandpa took me when I was just a youngin'. I blame him for my wanderlust.

Worth the Bus Ride
Did this with my wife, 8 year old twins (one with mild cerebral palsy) and 21 month old. Continued to Rainbow Falls. Not much shade on that leg of trip. Outstanding hike, though popular.
Took the JMT through the Mammouth area. Went to Devils Postpile, and Red's Meadow.

What a sight, a geology class was there studying the site, and they had great insight on how it was formed.Cool spot, and hiked down to Rainbow falls as well.

JMT
I visited this during a JMT thruhike. The exhaustion of a long day dampened my enthusiasm but it is really an interesting lump of rock.
