Great Page !!!! I only wish that I'd known about this site and these pages BEFORE we went to the Tower. We learned about the site as some other climbers had some of the excellent route descriptions that they had printed out....Keep up the good work, Big Wally, whoever you are, and everyone else that has contributed !!!!
You might want to correct the spelling of Fred Beckey's name -- there are two "e"s. I'm on a campaign to fix this througout Summitpost.org. Make the fix and let me know, and I'll increase my score on your page.
This reminds me of the time I was talking with a buddy on the trail about various climbs, sprinkling the conversation with references to "Beckey says this" and Beckey says that". A neophyte climber with us finally asked "Who is this Becky, and how come she knows so much about climbing?"
I'm just a Black Hills hiker who's never attempted climbing and, though Devil's Tower doesn't have much in the way of hiking, I enjoy the place very much. While in college in Spearfish,SD in 2006,realizing my girlfriend had never been to Devil's Tower before, we took an impromtu 2am trip to the tower. It was winter and the moon was full and bright and the moonlight reflected off the snow illuminated the tower. It was beautiful and haunting! It was romantic in that only she and I were seeing this and few probably ever do. This on-a-whim trip has cemented the monument into my heart. Although I would love to be on the summit personally.
I enjoyed learning here how others see this place. The human herd is vast and varied, so too are the ways in which this place is thought of and appreciated. I've visited since I was a child, most recently last year for a midnight walk under the Milky Way on the pedestrian loop. Free of the distractions of the Disneyland crowds, like the last commentator, I was moved by this place like never before. I think of this place often, wishing I lived closer.

Heirarchy MisleadingFirst of all, The Black Hills SD is not a National Park. Next, Devils Tower isn't in South Dakota's Black Hills. Great page in its own right though.
