Avy Danger
Made it as far as Ingraham Flats. Avalanche danger was too high on slope above Flats. Just 2 days before my climb there was a massive slab avalanche which killed one climber and injured several others. Also, on "summit" day, weather was pretty gnarly - high winds and complete whiteout conditions. Will try again in July '11

surprised!
We had originally intended on doing the Ingrahm Direct but due to the glacier being too broken up and convoluted, we opted for the DC. It was a bit of a surprise. A highly enjoyable route with some real crevasse issues!
A great day with Carl, Marc, Anton & Sean
The cleaver was a little sketchy during the daylight (sun heating the cleaver) with the mix rock and snow but was doable. The weather and the experiences were perfect though.I went with a great group of people and looking on doing many more with them.
Finally something other than wet whiteout conditions on this mountain!

Good Times on the DC!
I thought the DC was a good route for my first time climbing Rainier. Not technically difficult, just a long snow slog really! A couple of snow bridges to cross, but overall in great shape....probably thanks to such a good snow year in the Pacific NW, and recent snow fall.

Perfect Day
A really great trip with good weather and conditions.
took by friend Adrian 3 months before my wedding. On the way down, he forgot to keep crampons on the snow and went for a slide. I couldnt hold his 200lbs to my 145 lbs but luckily i had buried my ax to the hilt and tied it to my harness as i always do. Guides below on Ingraham Flats watched whole thing. I belayed my friend all the way down to the flats where he took a long "nap" otherwise uneventful trip

DC-Emmons variation
Climbed the rerouted variation below the cleaver and up the Emmons. Added a good amount of distance and elevation gain/loss.

DC Route
Made it past Disappointment Cleaver but a late start, no rest, and an exhausting crevasse rescue seminar the day before all conspired to turn us around at ~12,600. Will be back this summer to try again.

success on disappointment
survived a trying 4-day mini expedition on rainier. horrible weather gave us just enough of a breather to allow a summit attempt. we made the most of it and are extremely pleased with the results!

My birth county's highpoint!
Randy Sackett was the guide out of RMI. The snowpack
and weather conditions were awesome in August 1984.
There was a section above the cleaver where we were
unroped at the guide's decision. Two climbers had to
remain behind at Disappointment Cleaver. The lights
of Yakima were seen shining in the east. Great climb!
