First gorge hike for me...
Pushed to the true summit on a distinct tread over-encroached by shrubbery. It is in a dense forest patch - there are no views there. Also hit Puppy Dog Point (Dog Mountain Overlook; good views) via a clockwise loop trail. From this lower point, the very top of Mount Hood is visible to the south.

Went to Augspurger then to dog Mtn.
Very under maintained trail to augspurger.

Beautiful but windy conditions at the top after a steep but smooth trail in (slightly rockier past the tree line but still fast going). Best part was the inquisitive turkey at the top who came out of the brush to say hi a couple times. If you're after the true summit, by all means keep going up from the main viewpoint, but it's just a pile of rocks in the trees with no views whatsoever.
Took the steepest route up to the summit with Maddie. It was about an hour and twenty minutes to the top. On the way down we took the Augspurger Trail, to make it a full loop. Will be coming back to hike that mountain and Wind Mtn soon as well. Finally a nice weather day in the PNW!

Dog Mtn
Hiked Dog Mtn with a couple of friends in 2010. One friend reached the summit with me while one did the lower loop 1,000 feet lower. It was a scenic hike and a good option since Mt. Hood and the higher peaks with in the clouds.

Wildflowers!!
I think I got lucky because we didn't see any people until we reached the top. Wildflower season is definitely the time to hike this one.

Take the trail less traveled
Took Augsbergers up. Considering the amount of cars in the parking lot, we were among about 5% of those who did. Came down the regular trail after a nice break at the top, but severely regretted it. It was practically a conga line the whole way. Not my style of hiking.

Balsamroot!
I have done this hike every year since 2007, always in late May or early June, as a pilgrimage to the wildflower-filled summit meadows. This year the bloom was a week or two ahead of schedule... I think that I hit it at its peak. Photos @ http://bit.ly/13G1QFF
