Long Slog on Skis (but worth it!)
Low elevation snowpack halted our drive at around 5,000' on the east side of the range. Took a while to get back there, but we had a great day skiing the north faces of both Duffer Peak and East Duffer. Fun to see ancient flora like those pines.

37 peaks in 19 days
There was bad weather for weeks in WA so Heather and I drove through OR, CA, NV, UT, and ID. We climbed 37 peaks in 19 days. We hiked both summits of Duffer on our 5th day.
The road up to Onion Valley reservoir was atrocious and we could not get past one of the washouts in the dark so we camped on the road.
There seem to be two routes for the peak. One accesses Outlaw Meadows from Little Onion Reservoir and the Other comes from Blue Lake. We chose the Blue Lake option and this was not a good choice. The brush and dense forest between Blue Lake and the meadows is not worth it.
We were delighted to see numerous obsidian flakes and broken arrow points in the vicinity of Bare Pass. Apparently this was a hot spot for previous civilizations. trip report

Not what I was expecting
I knew there was whitebark pine on the mountain, but I didnt expect the verdant meadows, abundant wildlife, and alpine reservoirs. This mountain was one of the more enjoyable summit experiences I have had the last couple years.

Still snow in June
The meadows were full of water and a lot of snow in the passes, but it was still a great time. Did a side trip to Blue Lakes as well.

Just followed Dean
This was a nice hike inspite of the snow in the upper elevations. It was a nice hike just to follow in Dean's footsteps. He did a good job driving to the trailhead also.

Trail and cross country
SP member Dennis Poulin and myself had a great hike on a day free from thunderstorms. Started on a trail and then did most of the rest of the hike via cross country. Thanks to having some gps waypoints which were a big help, we were able to speed our effort.
