Unwary Eagle Scouts Mount Patron Peak
My hiking companion Evan and I hitched out from our camp next to the heart shaped lake in Nine Lakes Basin around 9:00am and unwisely followed the countour against the peak's northeast ridgeline until it intersected with the concave granite shelf. We quickly reached an impass where two steep, exposed granite escarpments stood along our countour to the main shelf. We circumvented the escarpment sheets by descending below the granite and regaining the lost elevation as we trudged up the lower slopes of dense brush and pileups of granite boulders. I reached the summit block at 12:20pm, exactly three days (72 hours counting) after my hiking companion Evan and I departed from Crescent Meadows trailhead at 12:20pm the preceding Monday. The panoramic views from the top were nothing short of spectacular, though I felt magnetically (albeit impulsively) drawn to the sheer cliff edge overlooking Upper Precipice nearly 1900 ft straight below, a primitive moth to a flame characteristic of me I suppose. The descent back to heart shaped lake was speedy and brutally tested our knee strength, but being cognizant of our timeline to end the trek the following afternoon, we loaded up our camp gear and continued on. With packs back on, our late afternoon descent brought us back over Kaweah Gap and rewarded us with the most impressive evening sunset looking west over Valhalla Canyon and Hamilton Lake, our abode for the night.
From camp at Big Arroyo, I tagged Eisen, Lippincott, and this by dropping down and contouring along their eastern side, on day 5 of a 7-day backpack. Following the connecting ridge would have been much harder. Trip report.

East Face
I found the first 11 miles to Bearpaw Meadow from Crescent Meadow to be a bit boring but the next 10 to Kaweah Gap were some of the most stunning I had ever seen. Went up the south ridge of Stewart the first day and then to camp in Nine Lakes Basin. The next morning up Eagle Scout and then out. Just climbed the snow straight up the ESE face of Eagle Scout.
My first trip into the Mineral King area, climbing Sawtooth Peak, Needham Mountain, Eagle Scout Peak, Mount Kaweah, and Second Kaweah over a four day backpacking trip from the Sawtooth Trailhead.

Standard Route
Standard route from SE bowl. Snow just cleared. 2nd party to ascend this season according to summit register. 2.5 hrs up, 1/5 hrs down. Climbed with two Scouts; Max, 1st Class Scout, age 16, Nishon, Life Scout, age 17. Class2/3 scramble. Easier than it looks.
NOTE: There is a good campsite at the base of the SE bowl drainage. A clear area around a large boulder.

Climbed from east of Kaweah Gap
Climbed with Steve Presho from camp in valley east of Kaweah Gap...It was a long time ago, and the date (even the year?) is approximate! I'll have to dig out the old slides to see what the view was like!
My first Sierra peak scramble along with Mt. Stewart later that day. Both were tackled while my more experienced partners took on Black Kaweah's west ridge.

Eagle Scout/Stewart dayhike out of Crescent Meadow. Quite long. And quite spectacular. The HST up to Kaweah Gap is one of those settings that just makes you go WOW. Truly awesome.
