Eagle Mountain (Minnesota) HP #20
We arrived at Eagle Mountain in the boundary waters of Minnesota just before 8pm and sped up the trail to try and find the highpoint before night fall. The 3.5 mile trail took just over an hour to hike up at a good pace. The actual highpoint is about 150 yards off the main trail to the right when you get to what feels like the top and there is a rocky area on the right hand side. There are two small cairns and when you actually walk back in that area you'll see a well worn trail but it's not obvious from the main trail. There is a nice plaque but no view from the true summit. There is a cool view from a little clearing about a quarter mile away. As we started to descend a thunderstorm rolled in and it began to pour without mercy. It was definitely a shower we all needed although it's going to take two days for our shoes to fully dry.
