East Ridge Taranaki

East Ridge Taranaki

Standard view while going up the East Ridge of Mount Taranaki. Ryan looking out at the Tasman Sea. This was a great scramble. Oh, by-the-way, the "summit rocks" are probably not worth bringing gear up for crag climbing. Just a bit of a jumble of blocks messy fractures. We downclimbed a 5.5 to get into the crater from the East Ridge, and then looking back at the crag decided to leave our rope in our backpack and just enjoys the views before heading down the standard route.

hi

In December 2014 we climbed the east face-by mistake! it was an awesome climb-very good rock but thank goodness I had a little bit of experience climbing-I think a novice could get into real trouble descending. I am 58 and found it physically hard. You end up at the top of the "sharks tooth" you can see from in the crater. Unforgettable but I want to come back and do the usual North face and crater walk. Pnbeliveable views of the national park and tasman sea on the way up.
