Emerald, Sprague, and Wind River Loop
Climbed up Emerald from East Portal before heading over to Sprague Lake and the Wind River Trail. A storm was blowing in and clouds were falling over the Continental Divide peaks. High reward for low effort.

Beautiful mountain hike, for beginning hikers !
My parents and I hiked this mountain from Glacier Basin Campground. There is no real trail to the summit of Emerald Mountain; but it is a great day hike! And, the view from the summit is absolutely Awe-strikingly gorgeous!
One time, as we were scrambling towards the summit, we saw a magnificent eagle, with its wings spread wide open! That was a very exciting sight for us!
And, my entire family has hiked up this mountain from Glacier Basin Campground [including my 3 older sisters, our parents and myself], several times in the 1980's and in 1994, as well.

Emerald Mountain
After work, I climbed Emerald Mountain near Estes Park. I climbed it from East Portal. It was a nice climb, but I got two ticks on me.

East Portal
What a beautiful (if windy!) day!!! Amazing scenery, nice easy hike. The views from this little peak are jaw dropping. Surprised to find a trail all the way to the top and even more surprised no one else had been up it (we were breaking fresh tracks). With Deb.

Nice short morning hike from camp. http://www.coloradoascents.blogspot.com/2014/06/rocky-mountain-national-park-estes-cone.html
Bushwhacked up the west slopes through the trees from Glacier Basin Campground, actually parked across the street at the shuttle bus lot as I was not a guest of the campground. Cool summit, surprisingly rocky and open!

It was the 100th anniversary of the Colorado Mountain Club's first outing (which was to Cheeseman Park, of all things). So the CMC celebrated by climbing Emerald Mountain from the YMCA. We were on the road for half of the hike, then on the trail the rest of the way. It was windy and surprising chilly, but not so much in the trees. We had a ton of hikers on the summit. Views are magnificent from up there.

Couldn't resist
Nabbed this one after "Thunder" & "Lightning". It was a little later in the afternoon and the mountain lion signs at the TH were giving me second thoughts, but it was right there and I couldn't resist. Although I think I was able to make quick work of this one thanks to the signs!

Hiked the South Slope from the East Portal TH. The southern exposure made for a very warm hike in the sun, which was nice.
