Hiked up, the scramble is shorter and easier than I thought, nice tho. Camped out the south east rim and out the next day. Great sunrises & sunsets!

Emory Peak Trail
Rangers were apparently doing a small controlled burn up high. The air near the summit was a little smoky, but the views were great!

via Boot Canyon trail
day 3 of a 4 day backpack. We kept the mileage low on this beautiful March weekend so we could really meander and take in all the sights of the High Chisos. Laguna Meadows; Southwest Rim to Boot Canyon to Northeast Rim; back down Boot to Emory Peak trail; scramble to the USGS marker; then down the Pinnacles trail to the car. Emory was certainly one of the most breathtaking highlights.
This was a cold spell in January -- probably below 32F the whole time; it had been only 11F the previous morning. The day was clear and the views were wonderful.

Pinnacles Trail
Started early in the morning and made it to the summit in good time. We continued to the south rim and it ended up being an very enjoyable day hike. During the trip to Big Bend we saw nine javelinas.

Emory and rain
Just climbed Emory via Pinnacles trail on Labor day 2009. Rain kept us from the last 20 foot scramble. Rugged hike. Guadalupe Peak has nothing on this peak.

Emory Memory
A nice little spur hike adding to a south/east rim Chisos traverse. Glad to see you have to do a little work at the top! Saw a "family" of five bears on the way back down to the Basin . . . one was the largest black I've ever seen! I guess things really are bigger in Texas.

Via Pinnacles Trail
While driving my two youngest children to Thanksgiving in California, we stopped off at Big Bend. My daughter did well on this one even though it was evident on her face that this wasn't what she really wanted to do. But there is always joy in making it to the top no matter what your mood is.

Perfect Weather
Great weather, camped at Juniper Flats and then up to Emory and around to the South Rim. Watched a couple lizzards up at the summit. I think they were annoyed that I interupted their lunch while I ate mine. Would love to know about the rusty bolts that were drilled into the rock and if anyone has used them lately.
Hiked with a couple of friends on a beautiful afternoon. Great views of the entire Big Bend region from the top. Up and down in 4.5 hours from the Basin.

Great Hike
It was a beautiful day in Big Bend. 75 deg with a slight breeze. The trail on this mountain is good and very well marked. The final rocky section is not hard but has some good exposure. Great summit though the weather station is probably not necessary. We celebrated the hike with a few beers in the hot springs. Don't miss them!

fun hike
With James Brown. My first real "summit," I think. We had a great 3 day backpacking trip in the Chisos mountains, and really enjoyed the summit scramble.
