Started at about 10,800ft on Hermit Pass Road. Hiked up Rito Alto, then Hermit, then Eureka, and made my way back to the road near Horseshoe Lake. Very windy day. About 11.5 miles in 6h40m. Just missed Mike Garratt by 6 days (he'd signed the tiny makeshift summit register on Eureka).

From Hermit Pass
These peaks were a great excuse to get the Rubicon out for an easy run and the dogs out for a nice stroll. The high tarns were full of water in this very wet year. A small spring was even running down the northeast slopes of Hermit Peak! A disconnected cable caused a scare when the Jeep wouldn't start! Note: marmots will investigate your vehicles at the pass. I sprayed Critter Ridder on my brake lines, hoses, exposed electrical, etc. with Mikey plus Logan, Gabby & Jackson.
Loop of PT 12671, Rito Alto, Hermit and Eureka from 9600' (just below lower Rainbow TH) on the Hermit Pass Road. Great loop of peaks, 4x4 could start much higher if you wanted to, Horseshoe Lake would work well as a "trailhead" for this group.

Eureka Mountain is a sweet little jewel of Crestone Conglomerate. I enjoyed this mountain immensly. The huge flat plateau just north of the summit is the coolest little park I have ever seen.
