Kiddos!
I took a large subset of my offspring up this trail. The youngest member of this particular subset was five. It's a nice short jaunt with great views. Kids are fascinated by fire lookouts, I have discovered. The views would have been better with a little less smoke in the air.

Evening hike
I started up at about 3:30pm. Beautiful day with non stop views. Bushwhacked to avoid steep snow patches on the trail. Had to stop several times on the access road to let baby grouse clear the way. They weren't quite old enough to understand cars yet. FS 6550 must be accessed from the Jack Pass end. The lower end is permanently closed off.

Evergreen
Takes longer to drive to the trailhead than to hike to the lookout. Good outing for the whole family. Great views!
Ascended from the very easy to find trailhead at the intersection of 65 and 6530. Shortly after the junction, say, about 20 feet, there's a pullout on the right side of the road. Park there- it's where the trail starts if you aren't driving the road. This trail makes no bones about heading straight uphill for the first mile or so, then switchbacks up old, easy logging roads. Navigation was very easy. Constant, fairly deep snow still from the end of the road to the summit. Huge, enormous cornice just shy of the lookout. Amazing views, good times.

Good views
I liked staring off at Columbia Peak and that area, it was a good trip.
A few weeks ago we took a chance on the weather and went for it! finding the trail head was hell and was not where i was told it was. Anyways we finialy found but lost lots of time. From that point on staying with the trial was very difficult, we would find it then lose it then find it and so on. At one point we took the wrong turn and ended up in the middle of the 2 ridges. But it was to late in the day to have time to climb out because it was 2 feet of snow. So we turned back :( will be going again soon though!!

It's about time!!!
During the past few years, it seemed like I had seen this mountain from each side (N, S, W, E). It's about time I did it. Decent weather with some clouded-over views. I also took some time to do some backcountry recon the same day.

Surprisingly beautiful day
Views from the top were breathtaking. Snow was very firm and conditions were springlike. The weather held well.

25 Degrees Below Freezing
A fun snow climb with Raymond. My thermometer was reading 7 degrees Fahrenheit on the summit. We ran into David Opus and Type E from NWHikers.com in the lookout.

Winter Ascent
Short, steep, and fun. Almost zero visibility on the summit. Big snow year with lookout completely buried.
