Beautiful fall weather
I wish this trail were less popular than WTA suggested it may be! Broody, cloud covered day - a couple spitting rain storms but otherwise a fun and easy climb. A couple horses atop the summit with riders making for an interesting final summit push with dogs. Type 1 fun all the way (and lots of water sources)

Great stroll on open ridge. Longer to drive to trailhead than the hike itself.

Via Damfino Lakes
The road to Damfino Lakes is now open leading me to an easy summit of Excelsior and neighboring High Divide Peak to the east. August conditions!

Beautiful Day
We camped on Excelsior Ridge for two nights. A lot of snow up top, I'd highly recommend trekking poles or an axe. The views were amazing. Can't wait to go again!

11,780 Feet of Vertial Gain in Under 48 Hours
Climbed four peaks this weekend starting with this one Friday after work. I spent the night near the summit. Would have stayed on the summit but someone was already there.

My Nectarine!
I hiked here from Damfino Lakes this time. While sitting on the summit my pack tipped over and my suculent nectarine rolled out and all the way down the meadow slopes to the south. If you see a fruit tree growing down there it's 'cause of me.

Nice Hike
Got out for a quick one during my vacation. 2 hours to the top and a grueling 4000 ft elev. gain from Baker Highway. Beautiful!

Damfino Lakes Trail
Beautiful October afternoon in the Cascades. Snowy near the top but well-trodden. Amazing views!
Route Climbed: Damfino Lakes Trail #625 Date Climbed: September 21, 2005
While in between 3 day hikes/climbs, Flanders and I wanted to take it easy but keep our legs loose. We chose this one from a book to see another part of the North Cascades from where we were. Camped in Douglas Fir Campground the night before and then headed up in the morning. Great hike through old growth forests to Damfino Lakes which were beautiful. More forests and then the meadows opened up. Very breathtaking place. Made the summit quickly and WOW, the payoff views were amazing. Baker is in your lap, Shuksan too. Then the peaks to the north caused me to go nuts of my digital camera taking shot after shot. Talked to two others on the summit and lounged in the sun for a while. Then headed down. Just a great little hike and well worth it. Really made me drool looking at some of the other peaks up there too. Too bad it is already getting colder and the season is about done.
