Fields
Walked atv track to summit. Should be an easy bike, cycle, or atv ride. From the top, you can see Strawberry from Fields, forever.

Pleasant spring hike
Hiked the McClellan & Fields Peak Trails. Found firm snowbanks on the trail near the summit, but also many wildflowers along the route as well.

Quick trip
Great little side trip. It took 2 hrs from the highway and back. There was some hunters present so I wore a bright vest. This was one of 4 p2ks that day.
Did this after doing Strawberry earlier in the day. Pushed my bike up the fairly steep doubletrack to about 250 feet short of the summit, then hiked the rest. Didn't have the time or energy to do any of the other peaks on the ridge. Up in 1:15, 4 minutes back to the bike, 11 minutes from there to the car. It is rough and loose for a bike, but no worries if you are careful. GPS had it as 5.2 miles RT with just under 1900 gain.

Blustery Memorial Weekend trek
It rained the first 1000 feet and snowed the rest of the way to the summit. Visibility was down around 100m for most of the day, couldnt really see anything until the clouds opened up a little on the way down. Fun trip, weather could have been a little more cooperative though.

Hells Canyon Creek Scramble
I only had Wed the 29th & Thurs the 30th to explore this area. Wednesday it rained & stormed hard so I explored behind the wheel of my rig. Thursday was dry so I climbed Fields Peak. I could only drive up Fields creek road as far as Hells Canyon Creek due to the amount of snow. 2-mile straight shot to the summit. 2960' elevation gain on snowshoes. A good Mazama BCEP conditioner...
Pleasantly surprised by this one, great area. Rained on us on the summit, then sleated, then snowed, then got hot on the way down the east ridge. Made a full day out of it by tagging Moore, Moon, and McClellan. One of the best wildflower displays I have seen.

See Dennis Poulin's post below. Hey Dennis, remember that other guy who did that hike with you? It was my 35th of Oregon's 50 most prominent peaks, and it was Dennis's 41st.

Starting up the trail (thanks to a late start) at 2 p.m., I was on the summit after x-countrying up (surely slower than going left at the fork, doh) in 1 1/3 hours. I went to the the right at the fork and thought I'd be smart just going right up the hill for the summit. Nope, it wasn't smart but I'm always trying new ways. The summit has a great view of everything and had I had more time, I would have liked to done Moore and Moon mountains as well. One should plan on adding these two to your agenda when you do Field's Peak.
It took me under an hour to get back to the car where my wife was waiting and as promised, I took her to dinner in John Day as payment for her patience. She said that at one time, our vehicle was surrounded by vicious snarling moo cows, probably a gang of cows that had recently escaped from the feed lot. No harm was done however. A good time was had by all.

Did this peak with Shirley, my Mom, and my little brother as part of a long ridge hike (Fields/Moon/Moore Peaks). We too had the place to ourselves except as we were hiking out (via Moore), we saw two people atop Fields Peak.

a nice easy hike to the top on a mostly sunny day. Views from the wallowas to Steens Mountain. I had the whole mountain to myself, except for one deer I saw near the bottom. lots of flowers on the lower portion of the trail.

Fun climb although mostly in clouds until the summit. Old lookout on top that apparently burned down due to all the melted glass I saw. Met one guy all day long and it was at the top of this peak, he was training for a triathlon.
