How do they

manage to get the lines up and tight enough?

Well, getting them up is easy. You need to climb both formations first. Then, you fix the ends of the webbing to permanent bolt anchors on top. Then using a "Z-Pulley", or "Double-Z-Pulley" system they pull the webbing on one side. Z-Pulley is a force multiplier system. This is the system you set up for crevasse rescues. This team was using two 1-inch webbing that they velcroed together. Each one of the webbings was pulled separately for maximum rigidity.
