From Echo Lakes
Plenty of fun climbing, especially if you stay close to the ridge line the entire way. Continued on to Echo Peak after climbing Flagpole. There has to be at least 10 different formations along the way that offer class 3/4 climbing on good rock. Part way between the two I thought I saw a giant marmot dash behind a rock. I continued up a little ways further to find 3 baby coyote pups sitting around a tree hollow. I never did see the parents.

Fun scramble
Made in Tahoe and I walked along the Echo Lake trail and headed up at the cabin with the blue galvanized steel roof. The route got more fun the higher we went. I'll have to do this again sometime.

South East Ridge
Lot of snow/ice on the rock making it a little more exciting. Saw avalanche activity on ralston and mount price.
I hiked this one a lot with my grandparents when I was growing up. Usually we'd traverse from Echo Peak, sometimes from the Echo Chalet. My favourite descent was down the loose gullies just west of the cliffs. Great place to be a kid!
Had a great day of climbing. There is still quite a bit of snow on the mountain. It was pretty icy in some areas. The views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding peaks were amazing.
Route Climbed: From Echo Peak and down Southeast Ridge Date Climbed: March 22, 2003
Snowshoed from Johnson Pass Rd to Echo Lakes and Echo Peak then down the ridge to Flagpile Peak. By the time I was at Flagpole, the day was spent, the weather was changing for the worse and the wind was nearly blowing me away. This led to a more challenging night time descent via the Southeast Ridge than I had expected.
