great area

Tom, congrat's on discovering this well kept secret (until Brian put up pages on them) hidden away in the Dayville area of the great state of Oregon. Moore, Moon, McClellan and Fields are just a neat group of nice easy walking peaks where you can really enjoy yourselves. Did you guys stop at the John Day Fossil Beds Museum? That is a long drive for you guys to make.

Re: great area

This one surprised me, as did the Strawberrys. Both areas are such a secret. We stopped in the museum on our way back from climbing Sac with you, it was closing, so we didn't see much. We did check out Sheep Rock and the Painted Hills though, very nice. Bagged Spanish Peak and Lookout (Crook Co.) on our way back.

Re: great area

congrat's on getting two more cohp's. You are rolling the numbers up. Fields is a prominence peak so you might want to see how many of those you have.

Re: great area

I'm starting to work that list as well. I have around 30 I think. Also working the Oregon 100 highest. My pace isn't what you proffesionals keep, but I'm working on them. Tried to email my completion map last night, but the link was bad, do you know what's up with that?

Re: great area

You might ask Bob B. about that since he does my map for me. 30 is great. I've got 34 and ten of those have come in the past three weeks. Dennis P and I are thinking about doing Maiden Peak this saturday but the weather is looking iffy. Heck, we may do it anyway. I have to convince my wife that she wants to camp out around Odell Lake.

BTW, Odell Butte is a nice one to get as is Hamner. Odell, take the road from the Crescent Cutoff on the north side and follow the road all the way up to a gate. The summit is 3/4ths of a mile and in some rocks next to the lookout. A little biddy scramble puts you to the benchmark.

Hamner. I've got all the GPS stuff to make it easy for you to locate the best spot to go up this one. Let me know if you want it.

Re: great area

No wonder your map looks so nice ;-)

Shelby and I might even join you if you guys give it a try........if you don't mind the crowd.

I'll take any info you have on any of these peaks.
