From the Northwest

From left to right, the four summits in this picture are Point 5764, Hurdygurdy Mountain, Point 5500+, and Eagle Peak. The northwest ridge route to Hurdygurdy takes the bow-shaped ridge from the left edge of the frame to the top of Point 5500+, then traverses Point 5764 on the way to the 5994-foot summit of Hurdygurdy itelf. Taken in November from the SW shoulder of Harp Mountain.

Looks much higher

with all the snow and ruggedness. Unlike most peaks down south here in California. Guess the starting elevation is the reason 'cause by your decription it is a pretty big mountain.

Re: Looks much higher

Yes, with the bases at sea level and treeline at 2000', almost anything over 5000 in the Chugach feels like 12+ in California. Except that the air is a lot thicker--if you're used to 12ers and 14ers, you can feel like a hero here as you zoom up 1000s of feet.

Re: Looks much higher

Yes! The lower elevation would be great. Living at sea level, usually only short trips to the high country and at my age I wish peaks like that or the Tatras were around here!
