route climbed: eastern approach from the end of the dirt road that follows the Pecos Road alignment
I climbed this one from the east with my brother Eric on New Year's Day, 1986. The LVMP Dept Radio repeater antennas on the summit were not fully installed but were under construction.
Route Climbed: Northern Approach Date Climbed: November 5, 2005
Climbed with my dad, Susan, Tyler, and Ron. Nice weather on this hike, not too hot. There was a trail up the ridge for most of the way. Great view of Las Vegas and all of the surrounding mountains.
Route Climbed: North Date Climbed: September 6, 2005
Nice hike. 78 deg at 7 AM to 90 deg at 12 PM. Found it longer and slightly more challenging than it looked from the trailhead. Disappointed that that I did not see any Big Horn Sheep. Best part was being the only person in at least 50 sq miles. Fun watching the 60 mph dive-bombing swallows on the ridges. Some of the trail wasn't too clear. Best help was this website: http://www.birdandhike.com/Hike/DNWR/Gass_Peak/Gass_Peak.htm
Route Climbed: Northern Date Climbed: April 13, 2005
I was the only one in the area when I reached the top on a very windy day. Great expansive views in all directions. It'd be a great experience to spend the night on top and have the best view of Las Vegas you could possibly have.
I recommend this one highly. A neat and fairly close hike overlooking all of Las Vegas.
