Not bad, actually...
Picture yourself on horseback, a Mexican serape over your shoulders, a matchstick between your clenched teeth, your eyes squinting to survey the horizon line for unfriendly Indian marauders, your right hand fingering the hilt of a pearl handled revolver. Maybe not “fingering” it, more fondling it. No, that is even more wrong. Touching it, ok? You are touching your revolver!
Onto the story. This hike would be the set for that movie.
It is in an insane setting but not the most challenging hike ever. Just a stroll. A gallivant, a sojourn, a waltz, a sashay. It’s an easy walk up but no less beautiful than ST or Bierstadt. Enjoy!
From the Abyss Lake Trailhead we headed for what we thought was Geneva Peak but nothing on the landscape added up with the map. We were on the wrong mountain, off of the wrong pass, in the wrong drainage. It really dawned on me when I saw the Bierstadt lot from the summit. Oh well. Nice fall hike from Abyss lake Trailhead.

Almost Summer-like
Despite being mid-November, felt like it could have been June. Nice views from summit.
A quick hike with Peakbug. The four moose off the Bierstadt trail were a big highlight and well worth the side trip. We had the trail and peak to ourselves, which was fantastic after seeing the droves head up Bierstadt.
Highlight of the day was when we spotted four moose near the lake at the base of Bierstadt. We took a detour down to the lake and watched a female moose take a swim and a large bull and two smaller moose on the shoreline. We then backtracked to find the trailhead (which is further south) and did a speedy trip up to Geneva. Amazing solitude after seeing hundreds of people head up Bierstadt.

Evac'd from my home due to the Black Forest Fire, I needed a mellow day with nice scenery and no surprises. This was the perfect walk! Great views all along, relaxing summit, and the dogs enjoyed the hike, too.

Beat the weather!
Easy and beautiful hike above timberline, as soon as we came back to trailhead thunderstoms rolled in, beautiful morning in the Colorado Rockies.
