This is a hybridThis columbine is a hybrid of two Sierra native species, Aquilegia formosa, which has red and yellow flowers and Aquilegia pubescens, which grows at quite high elevations and has white flowers. This hybridization produces sterile plants with larger flowers than either species. The flower colors of the hybrid plants can vary quite a lot.
