glacier view

Looking back down the summit ridge of Mount Grinnell, a spectacular view unfolds. Upper Grinnell Lake covers an incredible amount of the basin to the left, with famed Grinnell Glacier clinging to the base of the Garden Wall and Mount Gould (summit is out-of-frame). Small Gem Glacier is perched high above, and to the right is a larger hanging glacier known as The Salamander (both no longer meet criteria as active glaciers). On the opposite side of the summit ridge lies Swiftcurrent Glacier. Behind Gem Glacier, the peaks surround Logan Pass are all visible, with massive Mount Jackson lurking in the far distance. At center is Lake McDonald, largest in the park, and nearly 5,700 feet below. Mount Vaught and Heaven's Peak rise up and to the right. I love this view! August 22, 2009
