Glass
I love this area of eastern highway 120. The hike was straightforward and not very long. Excited to return here for more exploring.

One summit
Another solo trip. Trail was steep but not quite as bad as the stats suggested. I was tempted to get Glass north but wanted to check out the Aeolian Buttes instead.

Serenity now
Did this one as a DPS lister and as preparation for Dana the next day. What a wonderful hike for solitude, with nothing and no-one to disturb your contemplation of the views.

In snow
Early season snowstorms shut down Tioga, Ebbets and Sonora Passes...we wanted to do Mt Lewis in Yosemite but swapped that for Glass. After many hours of driving we started in 32 degree temps.
After the first 500 feet it was all snow, we lost the trail on the way up but it worked out fine. Temps dipped into the mid 20s, with low clouds, flurries and blowing ice crystals. It was darn cold. The route was steep, then on descent we found the trail and followed it all the way down.
The road in is excellent.

Tagged 3 summits
Needed a chill day for my twisted ankle. Chilly it was! Tagged the radio tower peak, actual summit, and Glass Mtn Ridge summit. Beautiful fall colors and tons of shiny obsidian.

Short but steep
This was a warmup/acclimatization hike for us lowlanders at the start of two weeks in the Sierra. It served its purpose well, involving only a few miles but all of them relentlessly up. It also afforded fine views of the Long Valley, the huge caldera that is a remnant of one of the greatest volcanic cataclysms in North America's past.

2nd Ascent
I'm climbing the DPS list for a 2nd time, and this was on the way to Tioga Pass, where I had two days of climbing coming up. A thunderstorm in the area started a fire between the Glass range and Mono Lake.
Real nice view from the top, no shortage of obsidian glass on the way up

Sawmill
Took a quick run up one morning while vacationing in Mammoth with the family. Well worth the effort to get to the TH. The views are spectacular! Took the scenic route by continuing south and east on the network of dirt roads. This added about 45 minutes to the drive, but was a fun alternative to just heading back to pavement.

a DPS list finish for several people, including Kathy Rich and Greg Gehrlach. We hit all three Glass summits. A great day and a great party!

We had great firm snow in the morning, and the snow softened up enough to allow plunge-stepping down a few hours later. Very short trip -- even with the snow, it was 1h 20m to top, 30 m down. An 8-year-old kid made the trip in sneakers.

Trail
Incredible views of the White Mountains on the way up and the Sierra from the summit. I also made the easy hike over to Glass Mountain where the communications towers are located.

Oxygen
Climbed with brother Andrew -- tried out bottled oxygen using tank borrowed from the Mammoth hospital. The 10 pound tank negated any positive effect of the oxygen.
