Route Climbed: Trekking route Date Climbed: May 22, 2002
I walked up early morning to the top of Gokyo peak and got my first good glimpse of Everest with the charateristic plume. The sun rays fell at an angle and most of Everest was in the shadow. The view of the lateral moraine was amazing! Gokyo lake looked deep green with a touch of intense blue. In spite of the two week long trek from Jiri, I still remember feeling a bit out of breath before reaching the top. Clouds moved in and hid the view of Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse and it got more cloudy as the day went on ...

Equally as stunning as from Kala Pattar, but very different -- do them both if you have time. As with Kala Patter, sunset gives the best lighting. Take the effort to be there for this unforgettable experience, and wait out a few days of bad weather at Gokyo if you need to.
Route Climbed: started treking from Lukla to Gokyo Date Climbed: 17.12.2004
Some climbers prefer to start treking from Jiri which is much cheaper but because of safety precaution I have to take my domestic flight in Kathmandu and fly to Lukla with return tiket of US198.
In december not many tourist trek to Gokyo. But the popular trail that most tourists prefer is to go to Tangboche Monastery and return back to Lukla.

We chose to go to Gokyo Ri instead of Kala Pattar based on a suggestion of a friend. It was a good idea. From there we had stunning views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyo, not mentioning many other 7000 and 6000 meters. It takes about two hours from Gokyo, on a very easy path. We had a great morning up there, and we stayed a few hours on the top. We were a group of 11 friends, and nobody wanted to descend. The day after we crossed the Renjo La, with new stunnig views on the Everest massif (maybe even better than those from Gokyo Ri), and descended in the valley of Thame, from where we got back to Lukla. A wonderful trek.
after being spanked on ama dablam and climbing imja tse, peter and i crossed some glaciated pass from the everest region to gokyo valley and hiked this 'peak'. a fine end to an adventurous 2 month in the high country

I do not consider this a peak - it is a hill which you walk up! Nevertheless it is useful for acclimatisation before trying a trekking peak in the region and this is what I did. Sadly the weather closed in when I climbed it and so I couldn't see a thing from the top!
Route Climbed: Normal route Date Climbed: 21 October 2002
Magda Soler and Lluis Canals summited as part of a trek to Gokyo and Everest region. The view of Sagarmatha is better from here than from Kala Pattar, the North Ridge is clearly seen. Very impressive to see the SW ridge of Makalu and the rocky face of Gyachung Kang.

Climbed (Hiked) it in the afternoon alone for excellent views of Cho Oyo, Everest and many others. Repeated the same journey in the morning with Pasang Ningma, Sherpa, and Ron Diamond for a photo session with different lighting. Spectacular view right into China.
